Chromosome Analysis, for Hematologic Disorders, Bone Marrow

Reporting Title

Chromosomes, Hematolog, BM

Methodology

Includes 2 or more banded karyotypes, analysis of 20 or more metaphases whenever possible, and other techniques when required.

Performing Laboratory

Genzyme Diagnostics

Specimen Requirements

Please provide a reason for referral with each specimen. The laboratory will not delay or reject testing if this information is not provided, but appropriate testing and interpretation may be compromised.

Bone Marrow

Obtain 1 mL to 2 mL (minimum volume:  0.5 mL) of bone marrow in a green-top (sodium heparin) tube(s). Invert several times to mix bone marrow. (Clotted bone marrow is not acceptable.) Other anticoagulants are not recommended and are harmful to the viability of the cells. Label vial with patient’s name. Forward promptly at ambient temperature. Specimen cannot be frozen.

Note:  Please complete and submit a “Genzyme Request Form” with the specimen.
