Methodology

Cell Count and Differential

This test is used for macroscopic and microscopic examination of a body fluid for the detection of a pathologic condition such as malignancy or infection.

OhioHealth Laboratory Services-RMH, GMC, DH, MH, SH, BH and OBH Core Laboratories

Specimen Requirements

Submit 5 mL to 10 mL of body fluid in a screw-capped, plastic container. Do not centrifuge. Forward promptly at ambient temperature only. Do not refrigerate.

Note:  Indicate specimen source on container and request form.

WBC/Nucleated (Nuc) Cell count includes mesothelial and other non-WBC/Nuc cells as reflected in the differential.

Cytology and/or Flowcytology is performed at the discretion of the pathologist.
