Specimen Requirements
Acceptable Specimens:
Abdominal, amniotic, ascitic, dialysis, paracentesis, pericardial, peritoneal, pleural, prostatic, seminal, or thoracentesis fluid
1. Submit at least 1 mL of body fluid in original collection container. If aspirated in a syringe, replace needle with a sterile, rubber cap prior to transport to laboratory.
2. Label container with patient’s name (first and last), MR# or DOB, date and actual time of collection, and type of specimen.
3. Maintain sterility and forward promptly at ambient temperature only.
