Test Code LAB293 Complete Blood Count (CBC) with Differential
Reporting Title
CBC/Automated Diff
Methodology
Automated Multiparameter Hematology Analyzer
Includes WBC, RBC, hemoglobin (Hgb), hematocrit (Hct), MCV, MCH, MCHC, RDW, platelet count, and 5-part automated differential. A manual differential is performed whenever the laboratory’s established criteria for acceptance of the CBC and/or automated differential is exceeded. A pathologist review is performed whenever the laboratory’s criteria is met.
Useful in the diagnosis and differentiation of anemia and infections.
The IG Parameter, % and Absolute is reported as part of the automated differential at RMH, DHC, GMH, DH, MGH, DMH, PMC, WECC, MH, SH, HMH, GCMH and GMC.
The IG parameter is the percentage of metamyelocytes, myelocytes and promyelocytes. An immature granulocyte count (IG) of 1% or more suggests the possibility of infection, an IG count of 3% is very likely related to an infection. Reference Value is 0 – 0.3 K/mcL
Performing Laboratory
OhioHealth Laboratory Services-RMH, GMC, DH, DMH, MGH, GMH, HMH, GCMH, DHC, WECC, PMC, MH, SH, BH and OMH Core Laboratories.
Specimen Requirements
Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s), and send EDTA whole blood. Mix by gently inverting 8 times. Forward unprocessed whole blood promptly at ambient temperature.
Note: 1. Hgb results may be falsely elevated if specimen is grossly lipemic.
2. Increased WBCs and the presence of cold agglutinins may affect results.
3. Platelet clumping may cause spuriously decreased counts.
