Specimen Requirements
Draw blood in a gold-top serum gel tube(s). Spin down and send 0.5 mL (pediatric volume: 0.2 mL) of serum refrigerated.
Note: A speckled-top serum gel tube (s) or a plain, red-top tube(s) is also acceptable.

Reference Values
Negative: <0.6 U/mL
Equivocal: 0.6-0.69 U/mL
Positive: ≥0.7 U/mL
Recommend retesting patients with equivocal results within 1 week of original draw. Lack of antibody response does not exclude CMV infection if specimen was drawn very early in the disease. Positive results may not be valid if patient has received blood within past several months.
