Specimen Requirements
INPATIENT: Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s) and send to the lab within 30 minutes on ice.
OUTPATIENT: Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube (s) and place on ice. Centrifuge within 30 minutes of draw and send 1 mL of EDTA plasma frozen in plastic vial. Avoid hemolysis.
Sample Stability Information:
Separated plasma 3 hours refrigerated in a stoppered container at RMH, GMC, DH, DMH, GCMH, WECC, and DMH
Freeze specimen for longer storage or shipment
VWH Lab Only:
Collect in Mint Green Lithium Heparin Tube 1 ML, on ice.
Tubes should be filled completely, mixed gently by inversion, placed on ice, centrifuged immediately for 10 minutes at an RCF of 1500G and analyzed within 30 minutes. Samples should not be frozen. The tubes should be tightly stoppered at all times.
