Preferred:

Submit >1 mL (minimum volume: 0.12 mL) of nasopharyngeal aspirate or wash in a screw-capped container. Send specimen refrigerated. Forward promptly.

Also acceptable:

Nasopharyngeal swab collected and placed into 1.0 or 3.0 mL Universal Transport Media

Ambient 4 hours

Refrigerated 24 hours (Nasal Wash) and 48 hours for NP swab in UTM
