Methodology

Inova Diagnostics Inc, Immunofluorescence Assay (IFA)

A high titer of anti-mitochondrial antibodies (AMA) supports diagnosis of primary biliary cirrhosis. Low titers of AMA may be detected in other liver disorders that include chronic active hepatitis and cryptogenic cirrhosis.

Specimen Requirements

Draw blood in a gold-top serum gel tube(s). (Grossly hemolyzed specimen is not acceptable.) Spin down and send 1 mL of serum refrigerated.

Note:  A speckled-top serum gel tube (s) or a plain, red-top tube(s) is also acceptable.

Specimen Transport Temperature

Refrigerate/Ambient OK/Frozen OK

Positives will be titered at an additional charge.
