Test Code LAB535 Vitamin D, Total, 25-Hydroxy, Serum
Reporting Title
Vitamin D, Total, 25 OH
Methodology
DiaSorin LIAISON®, Competitive Two-Step Chemiluminescence Assay at Riverside
Roche Diagnostics, Elecsys®/Electrochemiluminescence Immunoassay at OBH and MH Core Laboratories
25 OH Vitamin D is the preferred initial screening test for assessing Vitamin D status. It is indicated for the diagnosis of vitamin D deficiency, for monitoring Vitamin D replacement therapy and for diagnosing Vitamin D hypervitaminosis.
Note: Ordering the correct Vitamin D test is often confusing since several tests have variations of “Vitamin D” in the title. Vitamin D, Total, 25 OH is the preferred screening test for Vitamin D status. 1-25 dihydroxyvitamin D is specifically used to evaluate the Vitamin D status in patients with kidney disease and other metabolic disorders. It is not a screening or monitoring test.
