Methodology
Beckman Coulter DxI 800 Immunoassay System
Useful in management of patients with nonseminomatous testicular cancer. However, it is not diagnostic as AFP is also present in other malignant and hepatic conditions. This test is not recommended as a screening test to detect cancer in the general population.
Results from assays produced by different manufacturers may not be comparable

Specimen Requirements
Draw blood in a gold-top serum gel tube(s). Spin down and send 1 mL of serum refrigerated.
1.A speckled-top serum gel tube (s) or a plain, red-top tube(s) is also acceptable..
2. Elevated bilirubin may falsely lower results.
3. Heterophile antibodies may interfere with this assay.
