Patient Preparation: Patient should fast overnight (12-14 hours); infants should have specimen collected before next feeding.
Collection Container/Tube:
Preferred: Red top
Acceptable: Serum gel
Submission Container/Tube: Plastic vial
Specimen Volume: 0.5 mL
Collection Instructions: Centrifuge and aliquot serum into a plastic vial. Serum must be removed from the red blood cells within 2 hours.
Protect specimen from light if shared with another vitamin test.
