Methodology

DiaSorin LIAISON®, Chemiluminescence Immunoassay 

Qualitative results of EBV antibodies aid in the diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis. Epstein-Barr antibody to early antigen (EBVEA) indicates that EBV is actively replicating.

Note:  Of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, type 2 and 3, 94% and 83% respectively, have positive antibody response to EBVEA.

Specimen Requirements

Draw blood in a gold-top serum gel tube(s). (Contaminated, hemolyzed, or icteric specimen is not acceptable.) Spin down and send 1 mL of serum refrigerated.

Note: A speckled-top serum gel tube (s) or a plain, red-top tube(s) is also acceptable.
