Specimen Requirements
Submit 1 of the following specimens:

Prefer the unopenned original collection tube be sent for testing.
Serum
Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s). (Serum gel tube is not acceptable.) Centrifuge plain red-top tube(s), pipet off serum and send 2 mL (minimum volume: 0.3 mL) refrigerated if the original collection tube is not available.
Note: 1. Always sent as “STAT” to the reference laboratory.
2. Indicate serum on request form.
3. Label specimen appropriately (serum).

Plasma
Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s). Separate immediately from cells, aliquot plasma and store at refrigertated temperature 2-8°C. Send 2 mL (minimum volume: 0.3 mL) of EDTA plasma.

2. Indicate blood on request form.
3. Label specimen appropriately (blood).
