Used to distinguish IgE mediated non-IgE mediated allergies. also elevated with IgE myeloma, pulmonary aspergillosis and active parasitic infection.

Specimen Requirements
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Preferred:
Serum
Draw blood in a gold-top serum gel tube(s). Spin down and send 1 mL of serum refrigerated. Avoid hemolysis.
Note:
1. A plain, red-top tube(s) with or without gel is also acceptable.
2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).
3. Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature.
Alternate:
Plasma
Draw blood in a green-top (heparin) or purple-top (EDTA) tube(s). Spin down and send 1 mL of heparinized plasma refrigerated. Avoid hemolysis.
Note:
1. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).
2. Centrifuge within 2 hours, separate supernatant and refrigerate.
