Test Code LAB743 Protein/Creatinine Ratio, Urine
Reporting Title
Protein/Creatinine Ratio
Methodology
Roche Diagnostics- RMH, GMC, DH, DMH, BH, OBH, MGH
Note: Protein/creatinine ratio on a random urine specimen provides evidence to “rule-out” presence of significant proteinuria without having to collect a 24-hour urine sample.
Performing Laboratory
OhioHealth Laboratory Services-RMH, GMC, DH, DMH, MGH, GMH,OBH, MH, BH Core Laboratories
Specimen Requirements
Minimum of 10.0 mL of urine from a random urine collection in a 10 mL BD yellow-top round bottom urine tube or a screw-capped, sterile, plastic urine container. No preservative.
DO NOT SEND THE BLUE CAPPED INTEGRATED TRANSFER DEVISE COLLECTION CONTAINER. THEY OFTEN LEAK AND HAVE A METAL NEEDLE ATTACHED WHICH PRESENTS A SAFETY ISSUE.
Note: Follow instructions in “Urine Collection” in “Special Instructions.”
Specimen Stability Information
Specimen Type | Temperature | Time |
---|---|---|
Urine | Refrigerated | 7 days |
Ambient | 1 day | |
Frozen | 1 month |
Specimen Transport Temperature
Ambient/Refrigerate OK/Frozen OK
Reference Values
Protein/creatinine ratio is expressed in mg/dL for both protein and creatinine.
A ratio of </= 0.2 implies normal protein excretion.
