Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

 

Preferred:

Serum

Draw blood in a gold-top or a speckled-top serum gel tube(s). Spin down and send 2 mL (minimum volume:  0.3 mL) of serum refrigerated. Do not open tube(s) or transfer serum to other tubes. Avoid hemolysis.

Note:  1. Always sent as “STAT” to reference laboratory.

2. Plain, red-top tube(s) is also acceptable.

3. Indicate serum on request form.
4. Label specimen appropriately (serum).
