Zeus Scientific, Inc., Immunofluorescence Assay (IFA)

FTA, absorbed (FTA-ABS) is recommended for confirming reactive rapid plasma reagin (RPR) tests for syphilis. FTA-ABS will be reactive in current and previous syphilis infections. False-reactives have been reported in patients with hypogammaglobulinemia, systemic lupus erythematous, and pregnancy.

Specimen Requirements

Draw blood in a gold-top serum gel tube(s). Spin down and send 1 mL of serum frozen.

Note:  A speckled-top serum gel tube (s) or a plain, red-top tube(s) is also acceptable.
