Unit Codes | Published Name | Available Separately |
LAB793 | Epstein-Barr Nuclear Antigen (EBNA) | Yes |
LAB1730 | Epstein-Barr Viral Capsid Antigen (VCA), IgG | Yes |

LAB654 | Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) IgG Antibody to Early Antigen | Yes |
Qualitative results of EBV antibodies aid in diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis. The presence of VCA IgG antibodies indicate a past infection with EBV. The presence of VCA IgM antibodies indicate a primary recent infection with EBV. EBNA antibodies develop 6 to 8 weeks after primary infection. Epstein-Barr virus early antigen (EBVEA) indicates that EBV is actively replicating. Over 90% of the normal adult population have antibodies to VCA IgG and EBNA.
Note: Of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, type 2 and 3, 94% and 83% respectively, have positive antibody response to EBVEA.
