Test Code LAB90127 Platelet Aggregation, Blood
Reporting Title
Platelet Aggregation
Methodology
Aggregometry
Used to evaluate platelet function.
Note: This test must be scheduled in advance.
Performing Laboratory
OhioHealth Laboratory Services-RMH Core Coagulation
Specimen Requirements
This test must be scheduled in advance. Call RMH Core Laboratory Coagulation at 614-566-5685 to schedule.
Patients must have this test collected at Riverside Methodist Hospital Draw Site (Y180) due to the testing requirements.
Draw 6 full, light blue-top (citrate) tubes; and send citrated whole blood. Invert several times to mix blood. Do not centrifuge. Forward unprocessed whole blood promptly at ambient temperature only. Do not refrigerate. Specimen cannot be frozen.
Note: 1. History of recent medication is required for processing.
2. Hemolysis, icterus, and drug therapy (particularly aspirin, platelet drugs, heparin, and lipid therapy) may affect results.
Specimen Transport Temperature
Ambient/Refrigerate NO/Frozen NO
Reference Values
Normal
Interpreted by hematology staff.
Note: Platelet count must be at least 70,000 mc/L. Values lower than this cannot be adequately measured due to minimal changes in optical density following reaction.
Day(s) Test Set Up
Monday through Friday
Assay is performed only on dayshift at Riverside so the sample must be received in the Core Lab at Riverside by 2 pm in the afternoon.
Test Classification and CPT Coding
