Test Code LAB90424 (Pre) LAB90421 (Post) Urea Nitrogen (BUN), Pre-Dialysis or Post-Dialysis, Plasma or Serum

Additional Codes

47028

47038

Reporting Title

BUN-PRE/BUN-POST

Methodology

Roche Diagnostics

Note:  A “pre-dialysis” and a “post-dialysis” must be ordered to obtain a calculated urea reduction ratio (URR) and KT/V.

Useful to determine effectiveness of dialysis.

Performing Laboratory

OhioHealth Laboratory Services-RMH,GMC,DH,DMH Core Laboratories

Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

Preferred:

Serum

Draw blood in a gold-top serum gel tube(s). Spin down and send 1 mL of serum refrigerated.
Note:  1. Plain, red-top tube(s) is also acceptable.

2. Indicate time of draw, as “pre-dialysis” or “post-dialysis,” and as serum on request form.

3. Label specimen appropriately (time of draw, as “pre-dialysis” or “post-dialysis,” and as serum).

Alternate:

Plasma

Draw blood in a mint green-top (heparin) gel tube(s). Spin down and send 1 mL of heparinized plasma refrigerated.

Note:  1. Indicate time of draw, as “pre-dialysis” or “post-dialysis,” and as plasma on request form.

2. Label specimen appropriately (time of draw, as “pre-dialysis” or “post-dialysis,” and as plasma).
