Cryptosporidium Antigen Test
Methodology
Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA)
Useful to detect the presence of Cryptosporidium specific antigens in stool specimens.
Note: This is a sensitive EIA to screen for Cryptosporidium antigens that may be present in fecal specimens. These are one of the most prevalent parasites detected in this geographical area. This test is so sensitive it is now recommended that only 1 specimen needs to be examined.

Specimen Requirements
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Preserved Stool
1. Submit 1 mL to 2 mL of stool in 10% formalin preservative.
2. Label container with patient’s name (first and last), MR# or DOB, date and actual time of collection, and type of specimen.
3. Maintain sterility and forward promptly at ambient temperature only.
Note: Indicate preserved stool on request form.
Unpreserved Stool
1. Submit 1 mL to 2 mL of stool in a screw-capped, sterile container.
2. Label container with patient’s name (first and last), date and actual time of collection, and type of specimen.
3. Send specimen refrigerated. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.
Note: Indicate unpreserved stool on request form.
