Test Code LAB93618 Hepatitis C Antibody with Reflex to HCV Quantitative
Reporting Title
HCV C Antibody Screen
HCV RNA Virus Quantitation
Methodology
HCV Screen Roche Diagnostics Electrochemiluminescence Immunoassay
This test detects IgG and IgM antibodies, but does not distinguish between them.
A positive result indicates that patient has been infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV), may harbor infectious HCV, and may be capable of transmitting disease.
HCV Quantitative Roche COBAS® AmpliPrep/COBAS TaqMan® RT-PCR
Useful for monitoring HCV-positive infections and diagnosis of acute hepatitis C (HCV) infection before the appearance of anti-HCV.
Performing Laboratory
OhioHealth Laboratory Services- Riverside Special Testing
Specimen Transport Temperature
Frozen: OK
Refrigerate: OK
Ambient: OK
Reference Values
HCV Screen: Negative
A negative result does not exclude possibility of infection with HCV. Negative results may be due to antibody levels below limit of detection or to lack of response to antigen used in assay. Patients may have vector or fusion protein antibodies which could cause a false-positive result. Additionally, more specific tests may be useful in defining true HCV infection.
