Roche Diagnostics Electrochemiluminescence Immunoassay
General Information:
This assay screens for the presence of HIV-1 p24 antigen and HIV-1/2 antibodies.
HIV-1 Virus Quantitative PCR, LAB878, will be performed when HIV-1 p24 antigen is reactive.
HIV-1/2 Antibody Differentiation, LAB91008, will be performed when HIV-1/2 antibody is reactive. HIV-1 and/or HIV-2 PCR testing will reflex based upon HIV-1/2 Antibody Differentiation results.

Specimen Requirements
Specimen must arrive within 20 hours of draw.
Draw blood in a gold-top serum gel tube AND a lavender top EDTA tube.
Note:
Serum: a speckled-top serum gel tube (s) or a plain, red-top tube(s), is acceptable.
Collection Instructions:
- Gel tubes should be centrifuged within 2 hours of collection.
- Red-top tubes should be centrifuged and aliquoted within 2 hours of collection.
- Must submit EDTA specimen in original container without previous removal of cap or, inside of a biosafety cabinet, aliquot minimum 1 mL of centrifuged EDTA plasma into screw top tube within 24 hours of collection..
Specimen Volume:
1 mL minimum serum AND 2 mL minimum lavender EDTA whole blood (or 1 mL minimum serum AND 1 mL minimum EDTA plasma)
